Today is World Kidney Day, with five leading UK kidney charities raising awareness of kidney health.
The British Kidney Patient Association (BKPA) aims to improve the lives of kidney patients by giving support, information and grant aid for patients, families and kidney units during times of need.
Kids Kidney Research funds vital research for babies and children across the UK.
Kidney Research UK is the largest funder dedicated to research into the causes and prevention of kidney disease. They also raise awareness of kidney-related issues amongst the general public and their patient information service provides advice on medical conditions for patients.
The National Kidney Federation (NKF) is run by patients for patients, campaigns for improvements to renal provision and treatment, and provides national patient support services.
The PKD Charity works for 70,000 adults and children in the UK who have Polycystic Kidney Disease, a life-threatening inherited condition that can cause renal (kidney) failure and affect other organs in the body. Over 12 million children and adults worldwide have PKD.
Why not get involved in your local area’s events and fundraising campaigns? If that’s not possible, simply joining the NHS’ organ donation list can give a new lease of life to someone who desperately needs a transplant.
